You have more chance of a reply to a comment if you posted on a recent deviation and the artist isn't one of the most popular people on deviantART. The popular ones are usually too busy to have a look at your gallery.
Quality over quantity. Don't just submit tonnes of your mediocre artworks just for the sake of submitting. Make something worth people's time to look at and be original.
Be consistent. If you are not consistent in your gallery, it will drive people away. Usually people will want to watch you because all your images are interesting to them and not just one or two of your images. You have to stay focused.
Be yourself. Don't be someone who is just part of the community to become popular, express yourself in your art, not what you think people want to see.
Don't be an art thief. An art thief is one of the most hated things you can decide to be. It is when you take someone else's art and submit it as if it is your own. This is a despicable thing to do. Don't do it!
Have fun! Enjoy the community, look at all the great artworks there are and soak it all up!
