Submitting art to deviantART for the first time can be very daunting, but in the end you'll realise that all the steps you have to take is what makes deviantART so well organised, making it easier to find what you want.

So first Things first, you need something to submit. So scan one of your drawings, or Make ready one of your digital artworks and let's get started. JPEG format is best for submitting to deviantart, that way you don't have you prepare a smaller preview image. Of course, if you want, you can still create a separate preview image if you want only part of your image to be viewable from preview. However, if you do that then you should add text to the preview image saying “FULL VIEW” so that the viewers will zoom in to see the full detail.
While logged in, click on the submit button in the main navigation bar. If you are submitting for the first time (or if the submission agreement has changed since you last submitted) you will have to agree to the agreement. Basically what it all means is that you retain all rights to your image, but deviantART has the right to resize your images to make thumbnails for the galleries. So scroll to the bottom (or read it if you really want to) and and click the “I Agree” button.
Now you will have to choose what you are submitting, for this tutorial we will just submit a deviation. Underneath all the categories there are explanations for them, so it is fairly self explanatory if you want to choose something else. After that, click “Continue” down the bottom.
Now you will have to choose what type of deviation you are submitting. If you scanned a drawing then select Traditional Art. If you chose a digital image, choose Digital Art. You'll notice that when you select it, an explanation will appear down the bottom, once again, making things very clear and easy. Then click Continue.
Here you will have to choose a category and depending on what type of deviation you are submitting, the options will be different. Just like before, as you choose, an explanation will appear underneath so just figure out which category your deviation belongs in and press Continue.
Again you will have to select a category, this time a subcategory for you deviation. It's all fairly clear and simple. This process might be long but it has huge benefits in the end. After clicking Continue you will see a summary of what you have chosen so far, just check over it to see if it's right, and if so, click Yes. Otherwise click no and repeat the process. At first it might be a slow process for you but after a few submissions it'll become second nature.
After clicking yes you'll get to the fun part. Here, enter in a title and a description for you artwork. After that, enter in some keywords, check the desired check boxes and then click Continue again.
Now you will have to upload your image. If your image is in JPEG format then all you will have to do is hit the browse button next to the File: box and find your image. Click open and then click Continue again. If your image is not a JPEG or if you wish to have a separate preview image, do the same for Preview: and then click Continue.
That's it, you're done! Your first deviation and no hassle at all! You can check your user page to see it updated with a preview of your image there.
